Announcing $18,000 in Grants to Armstrong High School

We are thrilled to announce that the Fund for Armstrong has awarded $18,000 in grants this fall, supporting innovative projects that will directly enhance student attendance, engagement and academic achievement at Armstrong High School. This funding reflects our commitment to empowering students with meaningful experiences and resources that enrich their education and set them on paths to success.

Tutoring Center and Interactive Game Room for Academic Engagement

A significant portion of this grant supports the creation of Armstrong’s new Tutoring Center and Interactive Game Room—a flexible learning space designed to make academic support both accessible and exciting for students. Through this initiative, students can earn vouchers by attending tutoring sessions, which they can then redeem for time in the game room. This inventive approach not only reinforces positive behavior but also incentivizes learning by tying academic progress to engaging, fun activities.

As an E-Games school through the Virginia High School League (VHSL), Armstrong is uniquely positioned to leverage gaming as an extracurricular tool. By introducing gaming as a structured activity within the academic environment, the Tutoring Center and Game Room aim to increase student attendance in tutoring, foster a positive school culture, and support academic success in a way that resonates with today’s students.

Additional Funded Projects to Enhance Learning

The Fund is also supporting several other impactful projects this fall:

  • AVID Gear for College and Career Preparation: To celebrate Armstrong’s 4th-year AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) students, the Fund provided branded AVID gear. This gift symbolizes students’ commitment to their college and career aspirations, reinforcing their accomplishments and serving as a point of pride during college interviews. AVID’s college readiness system is integral to preparing students for post-secondary success, and this gear showcases their dedication.

  • Student Trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains: To broaden students' horizons, the Fund is sponsoring a fall trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains. This experience will introduce students to the beauty of Virginia’s natural landscapes, many for the first time, fostering a sense of connection to the region and providing a memorable learning opportunity.

  • English Honors Society Installation: This fall, Armstrong will establish its English Honors Society, with support from the Fund. The Society celebrates academic excellence in English, offering students opportunities to develop their skills, connect with peers, and prepare for future academic challenges.

Through these grants, the Fund for Armstrong is strengthening student experiences in academics, personal development, and school pride, helping every student discover new opportunities and achieve their potential. We are proud to play a part in supporting these inspiring initiatives!
