How It Works
An interested principal contacts the Foundation.
A grants officer is assigned to the school and meets with the principal to identify specific funding needs.
The grants officer provides the principal with an easy 4 step process to notify their community that the school is working with the Foundation, including a link to their school’s unique giving webpage. (Principal engagement and connections to well-known alumni are the biggest keys to success! Check out the promotional video by Petersburg High School alumni Blair Underwood.)
The grants officer will then mine a proprietary database of over 5 million Virginia public high school alumni. Alumni unique to your school will receive communications (hard copies, electronic, and phone calls) about making a tax deductible contribution to your school’s fund. The Foundation is equipped to receive credit cards, checks, most electronic payments (Venmo, Paypal, Swipe, etc.) and can also receive donor advised funds, IRA disbursements, stocks, and even vehicle donations.
Once a school fund reaches an amount determined by the principal and grants officer (usually $5,000), the Foundation contacts the principal about granting the funds for specific projects. The majority of grants can be shared with the school in 10 business days.
